VISIT TO THE PORTHCURNO TELEGRAPH MUSEUM FOR A TOUR OF THE ARCHIVE COLLECTIONS: 4th MAY

A big thankyou to Charlotte Dando and Alan Renton for taking time out of their busy schedule to spend the afternooon with us. The Cable & Wireless archive contains historic material relating to the development of international communications business and technology, dating from the 1850's to the present day. These include corporate, staff and financial records, photographs, press cuttings, maps & charts, company periodicals paintings and objects. www.porthcurno.org.uk/page.php?id=60

We kicked off the visit with a working lunch al fresco!

This gave us lots of energy, which we needed as some of the books in the archive were huge!

Charlotte and Alan have worked hard to create an ordered and secure environment for the archive.

But there is still plenty of work to be done!

By the end of the afternoon Alan was completely exhausted!

Monika will be returning to the archive shortly to prepare condition reports and discuss conservation options for some key items in the archive.

Sadly this was the last week of Kaori's internship but we are delighted that she has secured a post as book conservator at the Herefordshire Record Office. We wish her all the best and hope that she will come back and see us soon.
